A healthy diet that’s rich in vitamins, proteins, minerals, folic acid is not only important for health but also equally important for hair growth.
The following are the vitamins recommended for hair loss prevention and treatment.
- Vitamin B - This vitamin is not only required for health of the body but also for the growth of hair on the scalp. A member of this vitamin family called Vitamin B12 is the most important vitamin required for hair growth. Vitamin B12 is essentially required for formation of red blood cells and maintenance of nervous system. Vitamin B12 is found primarily in eggs, milk, meat, dairy products, soya products and cheddar cheese. An adult, man or women, is recommended to have an intake of 1.5 µg/day.
- Vitamin C - This vitamin is required for growth and repair of tissues in our body. It also plays a key role in repair and maintenance of bones and teeth. Vitamin C also serves as an antioxidant. This vitamin must be obtained from external sources such as food items since our body can not produce it and also since it’s a water-soluble vitamin, there must be a continuous supply to the body. Citrus fruits and juices tend to have the highest amount of this vitamin, although all fruits and vegetables have some amount of vitamin C in them. Dry and splitting hair is often a symptom of deficiency of Vitamin C in our body.
- Vitamin E - This vitamin is believed to help prevent hair loss by improving the circulation of oxygen in the scalp. Other than that, Vitamin E protects us against the effects of smoking and lowers the risk of heart attack. Vitamin E is found primarily in meat, fish, oatmeal, tomatoes, carrots and others.
