The following conditions are responsible for causing hair loss in many children.
1. Diseases - Certain diseases, including cancer, can cause hair loss in children. Such diseases have direct or indirect impact on hormones level in body, metabolism and vitamins in the body. If you observe hair loss in your children, consult a doctor immediately.
2. Eating habits - Vast majority of children have bad eating habits. They don’t eat healthy food which leaves their body with insufficient amount of proteins and vitamins required for growth of their body including hair. Hair loss in those children is common and parents should check the eating habits of their children.
3. Ringworm of the scalp - It’s a disease caused by the fungal infection of the skin of the scalp. This scalp infection is the most common cause of hair loss in children. Children with ringworm of the scalp, also known as tinea capitis infection, may have patchy hair loss which can be round or oval in shape.
4. Alopecia Areata - Sudden appearance of round or oval patches on scalp could be caused by Alopecia Areata. It is believed to be caused by the immune system of the body that attacks the hair follicles on the scalp. Under such situation, the immune system of the body wants the hair follicles of the scalp to be dead. Children with Alopecia Areata, may lose all hair on their head and even on their body. A dermatologist must be consulted to diagnose and treat Alopecia Areata.
5. Improper hair care is also one of the most common cause of hair loss in children. Some examples are the way children comb their hair, braid their hair etc.
