Hair loss after pregnancy is a common complaint. Most women, who had a baby, complain of moderate or severe hair loss few months after delivery. This is absolutely normal and hair loss after pregnancy is not something you should panic about.

During pregnancy, the level of hormones in the body are quite high and that prevents the hair in the dormant stage from falling when they are supposed to. It’s like extending the life of those hair that are supposed to fall out. But after the delivery, the level of hormones are restored to normal levels and the hair that was lying in the dormant/resting stage starts falling. This is a temporary situation and hair loss stops after 9-12 months of delivery.

In such cases, vast majority of women start losing hair 3-4 months after they had delivered a baby, which is quite normal. But if you see hair loss even after 12 moths of delivering a baby, you should consult a doctor.
